Want to be a millionaire wholesaler? Well, it starts with your mindset…
JP here with another juicy nugget of a gem from my pal and investor friend Bob Norton. I’m going to let him share it in his own words…
It’s about the mindset it takes to become a millionaire wholesaler. Bob’s advice here really taps into what I think enabled him to become a 6-figure-a-month wholesaler before that was even a thing.
This guy is a success engine.
And, I think this’ll give you a little window into what the very foundation of his success is day in and day out. Stuff like:
- Your mind and attitude
- Is “The Secret” just a load of crap?
- Does what you keep in your mind become reality?
- Your thoughts: Are they moving you forward or holding you back?
- What you focus on expands…
- Do you have to lose friends?
Intrigued, right?
Obvi.
Take it away, Bob…
So, I continually work on developing my mind and attitude. I mean, our mind is a very powerful thing.
Do you remember when “The Secret” came out? I remember people were really into it, others thought it was a load of crap, some said it was just a new spin on the same principles that have been taught over and over and over, and that there’s no real secret…
It’s just quality concepts.
There are other books like that: “Think and Grow Rich, The Millionaire Mind, How to Win Friends and Influence People.” We can learn from each of those.
See, I’m constantly trying to feed my mind. And the key concept behind that idea is: What you can hold in your mind, most of the time, becomes reality.
And I’ll freely admit — it’s very difficult to learn how to control our thoughts, and to step back and analyze our thoughts.
Have you ever asked yourself:
- Why do I think this way about money?
- Why do I think this way about business?
- Where do these attitudes come from?
Well, obviously a lot of it comes from when we were being raised. But now, we have the ability to consider whether those are the right kind of thoughts and mental procedures that are helping us get to where we want to go.
Personally, I think mindset is fascinating.
So, I want to give you a few examples…
I first learned this one when I was in high school, and I used to think it was great because we could sleep. I was a wrestler and at the end of practice, when we’re exhausted and sweaty, our coach would tell us all to lay on the mat and he’d say, “relax.” And he’d tell us to relax our toes, then calves, thighs, all the way up our body.
And listen, I was all in. So, after we relaxed (though, sometimes just felt like I was sleeping), the coach didn’t talk about our ideal wrestling match. The opposite, actually, we focused on a challenging match or specific difficult opponent.
For me, it was this little guy who was my nemesis — he’d always pound on me. And I really, really wanted to beat this guy. But I didn’t want to just hammer him. I wanted it to be in a real dramatic fashion at the last second…
You know how it is when the final basket is hit in a basketball… it would be my final takedown. That was my motivation behind this exercise.
So, I would visualize the exact score, how I would feel afterward and things like that. We would do this over and over and over. At just about every wrestling practice.
Well, a few months later — I kid you not — my wrestling match turned out exactly the way I visualized it. I won 6 to 7. I beat him in the final 10 seconds. And I’m thinking, “I cannot believe this. This was exactly how I’ve been visualizing it for the past few months.”
Pretty amazing.
Ok, next example…
I ran a marathon with my wife in Utah. We weren’t going at a super-fast pace or anything. It was downhill a lot… I was listening to my iPod. But, it could only hold a couple hours of songs. And I was getting bored listening to them repeatedly, watching endless cacti go by.
So, I decided to be mindful: What am I going to think about?
And I started to imagine the exact time on the digital timekeeper board for when I’d cross the finish line. I kept visualizing 4 hours, 45 minutes. Well, I was a little disappointed because we finished at 4 hours 59 minutes.
BUT!
When I went to look at the final results, it was slightly different. See, my wife and I had started the race so far in the back of the line, that when the starting horn went off, we basically just stood there for 4 minutes because there were like 5,000 other runners in front of us. (The road was only 20 feet wide.)
Turns out, my true final time was 4 hours, 45 minutes. Exactly. I took a pic of that, and it’s hanging on my wall. 🙂
So…
What I’ve learned is there’s immense power and visualization in our mind.
I think a lot of us underestimated that our mind and our subconscious mind does not discriminate between what we think consciously is real or false or untrue. The subconscious mind could care less.
So, if you’re really not a good father, but you keep telling your subconscious mind that you are, eventually it starts to manifest itself without you even realizing it.
This is particularly true with money.
If you tell yourself you’re a millionaire, your subconscious mind doesn’t say, “No, you’re not a millionaire.” It just says, “OK, you’re a millionaire.” But it doesn’t matter…
See, what happens is, we have to realize that we can’t just say it once or twice… and that undoes all of the negative stuff that’s been programmed not us for 30 something years. But, as you continue to condition your mind, your subconscious mind will start to manifest itself.
And that’s exactly what’s happened to me.
I finally said, “I make $100,000 a month as a wholesaler.” Once that decision was made, and I kept repeating it, I got to that level.
Now, granted, you can’t just expect to say, “I’m going to make $100,000 a month,” and poof it happens. Nope. But, you’ll find that if you set certain expectations and continue to program yourself that way, you getting there becomes the law of attraction.
Now, another thought to follow up on this.
What you focus on expands.
Be prepared, you may lose friends this way. How? Well, as I’ve grown as a person, I noticed certain people I was around were really negative. Negative Nancy and Negative Neal were down because they weren’t meeting their goals in life.
And it’s so easy sometimes to pull others down with you.
I remember when I used to go to REI boot camps, some people would make fun of me, saying it was stupid and cost way too much money for nothing of value. And when I came back, I was extremely motivated, fired up, excited.
And I’d share with those naysayers the ideas I’d picked up. They’d say, “There’s no way some guy is making $90k a month in Michigan. Dude is lying to you. Go get a real job.”
Maybe some of that is out of concern or security. Sometimes it’s from relatives — the ones closest to you or the ones who want to pull you down.
You know, people have very interesting views on money…
My brother has relatives in Canada, and they view him as rich, which makes him a “bad” guy. But what’s interesting is, he went to Canada and there were some newlyweds who had gone to L.A., and the entire night, all they could talk about was how they didn’t have enough money to do this or that.
He said: #1, I never want to hang around those guys again. And: #2: They think money is evil, yet it had consumed them that entire night. All they could talk about was not having money and that had been the core of their conversation.
Now, they like to think of other people who pursue money as evil and greedy, and then they turn around and talk all night long about having a lack of money.
It’s just so ironic.
So, what I’ve noticed is that you may have to separate yourself and sever ties from certain people. Don’t get dragged down in the dumps with their negativity.
Well…
Honestly, I could go on and on with more real-life examples about how powerful having the right mindset and visualizing are…
But right now, commit to changing your thinking. Develop your mind, expand your focus. Be positive. Say and visualize what you want, take steps to help get you there… and your mind will do the rest.
Try it. You’ll see.
Here’s to your millionaire mindset.
