So, as a real estate investor, you probably wear a lot of hats in your business… or at least you did when you first started out.

Think about it… you’re a/an:

  • Marketer
  • Accountant
  • salesperson
  • Networker
  • Negotiator
  • Contractor

And that’s just scratching the surface…

But even if you excel in all those areas, your business will never thrive unless you are driven to succeed

If you don’t have the mindset and motivation needed to be successful, it doesn’t matter how savvy of a negotiator you are… your business will die out.

So, if you really want to make the most of your business and achieve the income you desire, you must continuously pursue success.

“Success is a science; if you have the conditions, you get the result.” ~Oscar Wilde

So today, I’m sharing how success leaves clues for you to follow. In other words, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel to be successful. You just have to be perceptive to the clues available to you.

Think about some of the most successful people you know. What do they have in common?

Probably a number of characteristics, but some of the most notable are:

  • They think a certain way.
  • They take specific actions.
  • They model what works.

And they’re:

  • Motivated
  • Driven
  • Persistent.

Just to name a few.

So, let’s talk about finding and embracing that extra “edge” that pushes you toward success.

Consider these questions:

  • Do you want to have more passion in your life?
  • Do you want to experience more joy?
  • Do you want to have more freedom?
  • Do you want to be doing what you love… both professionally and personally?
  • Do you want to have more money?

If you answered “yes” to most or all of these, you are a person who is seeking success. (Woohoo!) And the good news is… I have 7 clues to help you reach these achievements.

Let’s get into it…

Real Estate Tips for Success

Clue #1: Write down your goals.

You may have heard of the Harvard study on written goals. If not, let me fill you in…

Essentially, the Harvard MBA class of 1979 was asked if they had written goals. Only 3% claimed that they did. And 10 years later, it was determined that those 3% of graduates were earning 10x as much money as the 97% of graduates who had no written goals.

Now here’s the kicker… this “study” is actually nothing more than an urban myth.

It’s actually not even true…

I’m serious. Try looking it up for yourself. See if you can unearth this “Harvard study,” and all you’ll find are people talking about it as if it happened… but no actual evidence that it actually did.

Before you start throwing rotten tomatoes at me, here’s the thing: It’s important to know that there is still some truth in this scenario. In fact, while it may not be literally factually true in terms of the supposed Harvard study, a variety of other legit, empirical studies have absolutely proven the underlying theory that this fake study suggested.

In other words, this “fake news” urban legend backstory spotlights an actual, time-tested truism.

We still know, without a shadow of a doubt, that written goals do lead to increased goal achievement. (I’m not Joshin’ you on this one).

Clue #2: Exhibit positive behavior internally and externally.

Successful people know that “garbage in” means “garbage out.” In other words, what you tell yourself internally will have a huge impact on how you behave externally.

Your goal?

Feed your brain positive information on a daily basis. This will boost your mood and your motivation.

You should also surround yourself with positive people and places. These will sustain your rosy outlook (no seriously, they will), and have a direct impact on your success.

Clue #3: Adhere to the motto: “I will see it when I believe it.”

You might need to read that subheading again. It’s not what you think it is.

Successful people don’t use the common phrase “I’ll believe it when I see it,” because that’s counter-productive to a positive attitude.

In other words, successful people understand that — if they believe in something wholeheartedly, it will become reality

They fully accept that they must take a leap of faith first before seeing the desired outcome… no matter how scary it may seem.

Clue #4: Never EVER give up.

You’ve probably heard that Taylor Swift song that goes, “We are never ever, ever getting back together.” (It’s a little annoying honestly, but please don’t tell my teenagers.)

But one thing she has right in that song is the “never ever, ever” part.

Because successful people never ever, EVER give up on achieving their goals.

Ever.

It’s not even an option.

EVER.

If you want to be successful, you can never let go of your beliefs or actions. And you should never give up on where you’re going. You need to follow that path until the very end.

Clue #5: Dare to be different.

Most successful people didn’t get to where they are today by following the pack. In fact, success can often be counterintuitive.

Achieving success has nothing to do with taking on more difficult challenges than everyone else; instead, successful people tend to do things differently than everyone else.

At times, this means that common sense has to go out the window — which can be super frickin’ scary for many of us!

But, if you’re not willing to be different, you probably won’t achieve the level of success you’re striving for.

Clue #6: Love to fail.

I know you’re like, “Uh, JP, have you gone off the deep end? Why would I love to fail?”

Well, allow me to clarify: successful people don’t take failure personally.

They don’t see it as a reflection of their intelligence, motivation or worth as a person. In fact, they often embrace failure wholeheartedly

Every “failure” is pregnant with opportunity. Every time we get to choose:

  1. “This failure is destructive — another step toward my defeat.”
  2. “This failure is a hard lesson — but also another rung on the ladder up.”

The most successful among us anticipate the chance of failing, because each failure can make us smarter, stronger and more driven to succeed.

“Each problem has hidden in it an opportunity so powerful that it literally dwarfs the problem. The greatest success stories were created by people who recognized a problem & turned it into an opportunity.” ~Joe Sugarman

Clue #7: Take action now.

There’s actually nothing brilliant about this clue. It’s pretty straightforward.

If you sit around twiddling your thumbs, don’t expect amazing things to happen to you.

You need to take action now — not tomorrow… not next week… not next month. NOW.

Successful people know that taking action first — before anyone else — gives them an advantage.

They also take action last, so that no one else has the “final say.” Simply put… they take action always.

Success is now

If I asked you, “Would you like to be successful now, or would you prefer to be successful in 10 years?” — what would your response be?

If you said, “10 years from now,” I would be concerned for your sanity.

(Just messing with you, but seriously, who wouldn’t want to be successful right now, if they had the chance?!)

Life is too short to wait to succeed. Don’t wait. Take action now…

Watch for these clues in your life, model each clue on a daily basis, internalize clues so they becomes part of your psyche, “live” these clues to success starting NOW, not tomorrow.

And you’ll have a much greater chance of achieving the life you want to live.

“Success is not built on success. It’s built on failure.
It’s built on frustration. Sometimes it’s built on catastrophe.”
